Frequently Asked Questions

We operate a repair-first approach, carrying out windscreen chip repairs wherever it is safe and suitable to do so.

Can a windscreen chip be repaired?
In many cases, yes. Stone chips can often be repaired if they are addressed early and meet accepted repair criteria. Factors such as the size, depth, location, and condition of the damage all affect whether a repair is suitable. We assess each chip individually and will always advise honestly if a repair is possible.

How much does windscreen chip repair cost?
Windscreen chip repair typically costs from £65. The exact price depends on the size, type, and location of the damage, as well as the number of chips being repaired. We will always confirm suitability and pricing before carrying out any work.

How big can a windscreen chip be to repair?
As a general guide, chips up to around the size of a £2 coin may be repairable, depending on their type and location. Cracks or damage that extend beyond accepted limits may not be suitable for repair and could require windscreen replacement.

Is it safe to drive with a windscreen chip?
Small chips can weaken the windscreen and may spread into larger cracks, especially with temperature changes, vibration, or further impact. It is always best to have windscreen damage assessed as soon as possible to reduce the risk of it worsening.

Will a repaired chip still be visible?
Yes, in most cases a repaired chip will still be faintly visible. The purpose of a repair is to restore strength and prevent further spreading, not to make the damage completely invisible. The appearance after repair depends on the type and age of the chip.

How long does a windscreen chip repair take?
Most windscreen chip repairs are completed in around 20 to 30 minutes. The exact time can vary depending on the type of damage and conditions at the time of repair.

Can you repair a chip in the driver’s line of sight?
Repairs in the driver’s line of sight may be possible in some cases, but suitability depends on the size and nature of the damage. Safety is always the priority, and we will advise if a repair is not appropriate in this area.

Will a repaired windscreen pass an MOT?
A properly repaired chip that meets accepted repair standards should not cause an MOT failure. However, damage that is larger than permitted limits or located in restricted areas may fail an MOT. We can advise based on the specific damage.

Is windscreen chip repair permanent?
A successful repair is designed to be long-lasting and to prevent further spreading of the damage. However, no repair can guarantee that a chip will never develop further due to factors beyond control, such as impact, stress, or extreme temperature changes.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?
Yes. All windscreen chip repairs are covered by our professional repair warranty for the repaired area. Full details are available on our Repair Warranty page.

Can you carry out repairs at my home or workplace?
Yes. We provide a fully mobile windscreen chip repair service and can carry out repairs at your home, workplace, or another suitable location, subject to conditions being appropriate for repair.

Do you work with insurance?
Some insurers cover windscreen chip repairs without affecting no-claims bonuses. If you are unsure, we recommend checking directly with your insurer. We are happy to provide information to help you decide how you wish to proceed.

What affects whether a chip can be repaired?
Several factors can affect repairability, including how long the chip has been there, whether dirt or moisture has entered the damage, the size and type of the chip, and its position on the windscreen. Early assessment gives the best chance of a successful repair.
